A strand of research on innovation aimed at understanding how companies accumulate technological capabilities to overcome growth constraints. This research has analysed how firms learn through networking with other local actors and whether firms from developing countries catch up technologically through their internationalization. This research agenda has demonstrated that companies learn and innovate through collaboration with a multiplicity of actors, and also that the structure of the collaborative networks as well as the qualities of their members are key to determine the direction of innovative outcomes.
