This project aims to study whether and how companies, especially large companies including multinational companies, are able to influence democratic processes. Part of the project is aimed at understanding the mechanisms through which companies can undermine even the most advanced democracies such as those in Europe, influencing economic, energy and industrial policy decisions, but also contributing to the retrogression of the rights of the social communities that gravitate around them. At the same time, the project will study the emergence of new forms of business that are able to strengthen democratic principles and establish themselves as business models that are promoters of more democratic models in the business world. This research agenda is pursued through the Horizon Europe REBALANCE project (2022-25).
